The Barbara Whipple Trail
(known usually as the "Whipple Trail") is a relatively easy hike
in Buena Vista, Colorado. The trail provides the expected grand views of the
Collegiate Peaks to the west.
The trail is located east of town. To arrive to the trailhead, drive east on Main Street to the end
and park in the dirt parking lot. The trail begins at the bridge. On the bridge over the Arkansas River, it is quite common to
and kayaks in the summer months. The trail has a
loop that runs through pinions, with a spur leading
to the old Midland Railroad grade. Throughout the trail, there are kiosks with
interesting historic information about the Arkansas River Valley. On my particular hike,
I also walked down to the base on the Arkansas River to spend some time alone.
The Whipple Trail is a very good option for those desiring "starter hike" to acquaint themselves to the outdoors.
I have a list of hikes from easy to difficult listed here:

Mt. Columbia stands in the background.
A great shot of the trail, the town of Buena Vista in the middle ground, and
Mt. Princeton behind! :)
